The calendar

All 24 circuits of 2025

Every track is traced from the real layout, from Monza's straights to Suzuka's figure of eight. Race them as six 4-race cups in calendar order, all 24 as a season with drivers' and constructors' standings, eight legends of the past in two historic cups, or your own way: a random cup, a custom cup or a single race.

Race day

The whole show

In the 3D view every race comes back as a TV replay and every cup ends with the top three on a podium, and a friend can take the second car in split screen.

TV-camera replays

Watch it back like it's on TV

Every race is recorded as it runs, and the replay is that race exactly, from lights out to the last car home.

  • Four cameras: Director, Trackside, Onboard and Helicopter. Trackside cameras pan and zoom to follow the car, then cut to the next one round the lap.
  • A director cuts between them on its own and follows the closest battle at the front.
  • Broadcast graphics: a timing tower, a lower third naming the driver in shot, the lap count and, onboard, the throttle and brake trace and the steering.
  • With sound: you hear the race from the camera. Onboard the engine is right there; from trackside and the helicopter the cars come and go, with the pitch shift as they pass. At 0.25x and 4x you hear only the venue.
  • Your car stays yours: pick a car and every camera stays on it. Press Auto to hand the choice of cars back to the director.
  • 0.25x to 4x, pause, and jump to any moment of the race.

On the results screen, press Watch the replay. It replays the race you just ran.

The podium ceremony

Spray the champagne

At the end of every cup, the top three of the standings take the podium in 3D, each in their team's suit, bareheaded, with their own face, and it runs as a real podium does.

  • Stepping up: third, then second, then the winner step forward and raise their arms, and the crowd cheers each one: voices, whistles and horns, not hiss.
  • The anthem: all three stand while the winner's national anthem plays, an instrumental the game synthesizes from the score, for all 20 drivers' 13 countries. Each banner carries its driver's flag.
  • The trophies: a presenter in formal dress carries each driver theirs from the table beside the podium: bronze for third, a bigger silver cup for second, and a grand gold one for the winner, who lifts it to a fanfare, confetti cannons and the crowd's roar.
  • The champagne: a cork pops for each bottle and all three spray it (on Medium and High graphics), each with their trophy in the other hand, the camera orbits, and the ceremony plays on until you leave.

Name plates show each driver's place, team and cup points. Back to pit lane works at any moment, and the sound follows the game's sound setting.

Two players, split screen

Bring a rival

Pick 2 players in the pit lane and a second driver joins the same race: the same 20-car field, the same cup, two views, each with its own full HUD.

  • Stacked or side by side: the views stack on most windows and sit side by side on very wide ones.
  • Two careers: each player's points, rating, qualifying and best laps go to their own driver's career.
  • Gamepads: the first pad is P1's and the second is P2's, and the keys still work alongside.
  • The replay after: with no battle to show, the director cuts between the two of you, and onboard each car the trace shows that player's own keys.

On track

Louder, harder, fairer

A Safety Car that drives in through a gate, barriers that bite, engines that start and crackle, and a moon over the night races.

The Safety Car leaving its shelter at a service gate at Spa-Francorchamps, its slip road running through a gap in the barrier onto the track

Service gates

Every circuit has service gates round the lap. Called, the Safety Car takes whichever gate (or the pit exit) gets it in front of the leader soonest, and waits there if a car is coming.

The Safety Car with its roof lights on, leading the cars behind it through a corner at Spa-Francorchamps

Then it leads

It catches up to the front, holds the field for seven seconds, then puts its lights out and drives back round to the pit lane and into its garage.

Charles Leclerc's Ferrari just after glancing off the barrier beyond the gravel at Suzuka, a flash of sparks on the wall behind it

Steer, or meet the wall

Let go in a corner and you run wide, across the run-off and into the barrier. A hard hit throws sparks and dust and shakes the camera, and the cars behind slip by while you gather it up. Prefer it the F1 way? Turn on Spinning cars block the road in Settings, and a spinning car is solid: go round it or lose your speed. Start last and a comeback is still on: the strong power-ups come more often to the cars at the back.

A full moon and stars in the night sky over the Las Vegas Strip Circuit

Night skies

The five night races (Jeddah, Singapore, Las Vegas, Lusail and Yas Marina) run under a pale moon and stars. When it rains, the cloud hides them.

Engines that start

On the grid your car and the ones nearest it turn over, catch and blip before the lights. Flat out, the note keeps moving: the hybrid whines, then runs dry after a long spell flat out. Lift off at high revs and it crackles and pops. Every sound is synthesised live.

Smooth at full sharpness

On High graphics the 3D picture draws at a Retina screen's full resolution. If frames start to miss 60 a second, its resolution steps down a notch, and back up when there is room. The HUD's text stays crisp throughout.

Drift boost

Hold Shift through a corner. The tyre smoke turns white, then blue, then orange as the boost charges. Let go on orange for the biggest kick.

Overtaking

Tuck in behind a car: its tow pulls you along faster, then pull out and pass. Side by side, nobody is thrown back. Steer through the corners: let go and you run wide, off the road and into the barriers, where a hard hit glances you off with sparks and dust while the cars behind slip by (or have to go round you, with Spinning cars block the road on in Settings).

Careers

Every driver has their own career (points, rating, tier, poles and best laps), each starting at 1200 · F4. Pick a driver and it's their career that climbs.

Starting grid

Choose it in the pit lane for the whole cup. From the back: you line up last and fight through, Mario Kart style, with the field in championship order ahead. Qualifying: before every race, one flying lap from a rolling start sets your grid, and it pays career points: pole 10, P2 6, P3 4, P4 to P10 2, times the difficulty.

Power-ups

Drive through the red boxes. The further back you are, the stronger your odds. See all eight.

Power-ups

Mario Kart chaos, F1 rules

Drive through the red boxes. What you get depends on how far back you are, like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe: the weakest items are the most common and the strongest are the rarest, and the back of the field gets the fast ones most.
